Hotel Attrition Rate Explained

Attrition Rates Demystified: How They’re Calculated and What They Mean

Your contract may say “80% attrition,” but what does that really mean?

It means you’re responsible for using—or paying for—at least 80% of the total contracted room block. If you don’t, the hotel will bill you for the shortfall.

A simple example:

Contracted Rooms: 200

Attrition Rate: 80%

Minimum Pickup Required: 160 rooms

If you only fill 120 rooms, you may owe for 40 unused rooms.

We help you:

  • Right-size the block based on real attendance
  • Reduce the attrition rate before signing
  • Negotiate flexibility into the rebook clause
